thoughts on food

{this is a slight rant/vent/plea. read with caution}

ok, here's the deal.
i'm confused--about food.

lately i've read/watched/heard so many different things on food.
{including the WOW from D&C}
what i should eat, what i shouldn't, what i can have a little of and what i can eat to my hearts content.

vegeterian.
vegan.
paleo.
gluten free.
juice fasting.

so.many.different.opinions.

i feel like i eat fairly healthy already--i do eat gluten free and i try to eat mostly
fruits and vegetables with some grains and meat mixed in there. however, {and this is truly from my heart, so don't hate} in the past 2 months i have gained 5 pounds. gasp, right? wrong. you might say it's only five pounds and our weight fluctuates.
i promise i know--i am a nursing student.
 BUT, i weight myself {almost} every day and i have steadily gained weight over the past two months. i have had no changes in my diet or exercise.

would eating vegeterian/vegan/paleo/etc. help me get back to my original weight?
if you believe one way is better than the other, why?
why do you eat the way you eat?

i am interested in your feedback and opinions. please leave your thoughts.

  1. you must be pregnant. ;)
    I'm not expert on diets--I have been trying to eat healthy while I train for my marathon, but I'm not ready to give up meat, dairy, or chocolate. :)
    My mother-in-law is a dietician (spelling?) and she has some good opinions I think. You can call me if you want to talk, it would be too long for me to type up. :) love you laur, and no one will be able to notice 5 lbs difference on you, only you will be able to notice.

  2. I'm in a food science class and will be teaching foods classes in junior high and high schools and my opinion boils down to one thing...Moderation. That's what the Word of Wisdom says. Balance and moderation. I recently wrote a post about "processed" foods and my frustrations with that. Most of the gluten free stuff is all a fad. I'm saying that based upon science soo just be moderate in what you eat and don't worry if you're not getting exactly the three cups of veggies every day. As for your weight gain, I truly have no idea. Perhaps we're just at a time in our lives that our metabolism is catching up with us? You're great :)

  3. I hate diets! I think your weight is just fine and you look beautiful! So don't diet for 5 pounds. (If we're talking 30, then maybe it's ok)

    Also, I don't like diets if it's just a temporary thing. If you want to make a lifestyle change, ok, but if you "diet" for just a few weeks or months, and then go back to your old food, your weight will only stay down temporarily.

    And from someone who has had twins and will never have my body back the way it was- appreciate your body! It is amazing and can do amazing things (grow a baby).

  4. Laur I love you. My opinion? Its only five pounds, don't worry about it :). It's normal for weight to fluctuate. There's nothing wrong with eating a little meat and chocolate every day. Thats what i say!
