truth: sometimes, i get bored. really bored.
so after watching HGTV one day i was inspired
to go to my local Goodwill and purchase something
that i could "makeover".
so i did.
here is my simple tutorial on how to remake a mirror.
1.) go to your local secondhand store and buy a mirror.
{mine was $4.99. awesome}
2.)go to Home Depot {or such place},
find a paint color you adore,
{mine just happened to be named Cream Puff. yum.}
and purchase a sample size of paint.
Also buy a brush or two for painting.
3.)come home, and place newspaper on the ground where you are going to paint. or don't. but i would highly suggest it.
also tape or place newspaper on actual mirror.
{i was able to put it between the mirror and frame, but make sure
you cover all of the mirror so you don't get paint on it}
4.)sand the frame with 120 grain sandpaper.
you can get a higher or lower grade
depending on what you want yours to turn out like.
120 worked for me.
5.)paint the first coat of paint on the frame.
let it dry for at least two hours.
{don't forget to rinse and dry paint brushes after first coat!}
6.) after making sure the paint is all dry
apply the second coat of paint.
wash brushes.
allow to dry for 4 hours.
7.)when all the paint is dry get more sandpaper and sand off
small pieces/places on the frame to make it look antiqued.
less is more--don't over do it.
also, try to look for natural/existing places the frame
was worn off {or would have been worn off in some cases}
8.)pull the newspaper out from the mirror.
{admire your work}
9.)find somewhere to put your mirror.
{notice mine is on the floor.
obviously i haven't found a place to put mine yet.
i'm still debating if my mom is going to get it or if
i will hang it here.}
sorry about getting in the picture. i wanted a top view.
ta da! finished project in
less than 5 days and for under $20.
My next project is a shirt i am making with Caitlin. Today was an interesting experience...we're not sure if they'll turn out.
{i'll keep you posted on our progress though}
I love it Laur! I am definitely into the DIY spirit too, and this inspired me.
